The wellbeing of our teachers and TA's matter.
Recent research consistently shows that positive relationships, supportive environments, and feeling genuinely known and valued are central to teacher wellbeing. When teachers tell us why they have stayed with West Country for years, they rarely mention our rates or our high tech booking systems. They mention Annie, Pam, Emma, Karen or Sarah by name. They talk about feeling supported. They describe being treated "like a person, not a number." This matters enormously. Primary teaching is emotionally demanding work at the best of times and supply teaching adds extra stressors: unfamiliarity, limited preparation time, and the challenge of establishing presence and relationships quickly. Teachers navigating this need to know there is someone at the end of the phone who understands their situation, advocates for them and treats them as a professional rather than a commodity.
When an agency know you personally, they can support your wellbeing in practical ways: not putting you in situations you've told them you find particularly stressful, understanding when you need a break or that you need flexibility because family comes first, recognising when feedback from a school seems unfair and advocating on your behalf, celebrating for, and with, you when placements and life goes well.
We also understand that sometimes this is not enough. If you feel you need more support the websites below may be able to help if you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious or if you are facing financial difficulties.
